I had a professor in the Homeland Security program at the Bush School at Texas A&M that did a paper titled "The End of Commerce". It was a chilling account of what would happen if our telecommunications/critical infrastructure was compromised, and it's impact on the global economy. We have been asleep at the switch, unfortunately I don't think the current administration can address the problem.
The private sector owns 85% of the critical infrastructure and its IT management of security is fractured at best. Here's one question I asked several years ago and still don't have an answer. Who is responsible for reconstituting the internet? Really, who?
